"And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it."

The Suffering Servant

The Gospel of Mark is the story of what Jesus did for us through His life and ministry. With the focus being more on Jesus' actions than His words, we are able to see Jesus become a humble servant to those in need. From John the Baptist baptizing Jesus in the Jordan River, to the miracle of the five loaves and two fish, the book ends with the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Even though it is the shortest of the Gospels and most likely the oldest, Mark is action-packed and highlights Jesus' authority and servanthood, calling us to confess and serve the Son of God.
